Second Semester Begins February 4!

Monday, February 3 is an Inservice, so there will be no school. Second Semester will begin on Tuesday, February 4. Please note the following:

- It will be Day 3 on the school day cycle.

- Because it will be Tuesday, classes will start at 9:00 am.
            Period 1: 9:00 - 10:00
            Period 2: 10:05 - 11:05
            Period 3: 11:10 - 12:03

- Mrs. Olko's Psych 42 class is reminded that they have a test.

Assessment Week Has Begun!


This week at JT is Assessment Week. Students only need to attend for their exams.  The exam schedule is posted here.  Students cannot bring phones, jackets, bags, or purses in to the exam room; these items should be placed in their lockers beforehand.

The Boys Hockey Team played a great game last night defeating Westwood Collegiate 7 - 4. Scoring was led by Wyatt K. with 4 goals and Shane B. with 2 goals and 2 assists. This was our 3rd win of the new year. Go Pipers!

The JT Boys curling team played extremely well last night but came in second in the AAAA zone final game. They put in a valiant effort but came up against a strong team with luck on their side. Congratulations to both the boys and girls curling teams for making it into the finals!

18:00 – Old Friends, New Connections – Meet and Greet at John Taylor.
21:00 – Social Evening – Do You Remember the Monterey Ranch… – Canad Inn Polo Park – Watch some of JT’s great alumni musicians 
Rock the Stage and catch up with friends and staff.
Saturday – May 17th, 2014

09:00 – 11:00 – Pancake Breakfast.
10:00 – 16:00 – Sports Day – 
Remember the Pipers – Relive the old days in the gym, on the field, in the pool or on the ice. Including the following tentative activities:
Basketball, Volleyball, Water Polo, Hockey, Slow Pitch, Table Tennis, Gym Riot, Golf.

Spaghetti Bridges


Ron Spangelo from APEGM visited the grade 12 physics class to assist in the assessment of the spaghetti bridge assignment. The objective is to build the strongest bridge from regular spaghetti and white glue.  The bridges are to span an opening of 300 mm.  They must be between 320 mm and 400 mm long, no higher than 150 mm and must be no greater than 140 mm in width.  The bridge that holds the most wins.  Mr. Spangelo shared information on the career of engineering and the types of influences that engineers have on our day to day activities.

JT Curling

The JT curling team will be playing in the finals on Monday January 20th at the Charleswood Curling Club.  Games start at 12:30.


John Taylor 50th Reunion


If you have not heard, the John Taylor 50th Reunion Celebration is taking place from May 16-18 2014. We already have close to 750 alumni registered to attend.

You can help by spreading the word to friends of John Taylor by volunteering to assist or by loaning us any artifacts from the 60’s, 70’s , 80’s or 90’s for our Friday night event.

The JT Boys Curling Team easily won their final game of the regular season against FRC, 5-2. Both the boys and girls teams are now in the zone playoffs starting next Monday afternoon! Way to go teams!

Upcoming events

The JT Dance Recital will be on Thursday January 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the theatre.
The JT Jazz Cafe is Friday January 17 at 7:00 p.m.  There will be performances by the John Taylor Jazz Bands, Rock Band, Choir Vocal Jazz and Dance Troupe. Tickets for the Jazz Cafe are $5.00 each.

John Taylor hosted the 43rd Piper Classic

John Taylor hosted the 43rd Piper Classic. This basketball tournament ran over 3 days at two venues. There were over 60 student and staff volunteers helping out at this event. Highlights included two special presentations. Fred Sackey received the Nick Laping Award, and Samantha Line was acknowledged for her volunteerism, student council and philanthropic contributions, as well as her AP academics, as the recipient of the Dennis Schrofel Award.
Special thanks to Mr. Marquart for his leadership in organizing this event.
